The Presbyterian church views both adult and infant baptism as equally valid for parents as they think about their children's baptism. Baptism always takes place in the context of a worship service. The congregation of the church pledges to assist the parents in teaching the child to grow in their faith. Because the church as a whole makes this pledge, it is necessary for one of the parents to be an active member of the congregation.
The act of baptism sets Christians on a journey which lasts the whole course of their lives. The meaning of one's baptism only becomes apparent through the subsequent course of one's life, and is not complete until that person's death.
